ABOUT the CLinic
At Alaska Functional Medicine Clinic we practice patient-centered, not disease-centered care. We offer care for the whole family and our care in founded on a comprehensive, functional philosophy.
Who Are Our Patients?
We treat patients with a broad range of chronic health problems, from digestive disorders, to chronic infections, to autoimmune disease, to hypothyroidism.
The Alaska Functional Medicine Clinic is for those who seek wellness and freedom from illness. We want you to help you gain the tools necessary to support your health without us (we would be so happy if you stopped needing us at some point).
Patients who do best under our care:
- Do not want to rely on unnecessary drugs and medical intervention for the rest of their lives
- Are interested in discovering the underlying cause of their complaints, not just suppressing symptoms
- Are motivated to play an active role in their own healing process
- Are willing to make the necessary dietary and lifestyle changes to support their overall health and well-being
Our commitment is to be a trusted and reliable source of education and information and provide the tools for you to take control of your own health today.
Our desire is to break down the barriers between alternative, complementary, integrative, and conventional medicine. We do this by utilizing appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic tools that match the problem rather than those fit for a specific discipline (conventional medicine, herbal medicine, etc.).
Our goal is to create a map to help you navigate through health concerns using a new frame of reference. One that allows you to understand and address the causes of disease and illness rather than just treating symptoms.
Our wish is for everyone to say, “I had no idea I could feel this good” and no longer need to come and visit us.
Functional Medicine is:
Integrative - addresses symptoms by focusing on the underlying cause of the problem which leads to more profound and longer lasting results.
Holistic - Envisions the body systems as interconnected and in a dynamic relationship to its environment, and recognizes the importance of these connections in both health and disease.
Safe - Treatments have mild or no side effects and other unrelated complaints often improve spontaneously.
Patient-centered - Treats the patient, not the disease. Treatments are highly individualized based on current patient needs.
Participatory - the patient and practitioner engage in an active, therapeutic relationship. The patient is respected, empowered, educated, and encouraged to play an active role in the healing process.
Integrative - combines the best of both modern and traditional medical practices and emphasizes the importance of diet and lifestyle.
Restorative - tests and treatments are designed to promote optimal functioning, prevent and reverse disease, and improve the quality of life.
Preventative - Aims to treat diseases before they occur.
Evidence-based - Based on the latest research from peer-reviewed medical journals and uncorrupted by corporate and political interests.
